PostgreSQL/PostGIS Developer
Position summary
Motivf is recruiting a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database developer to join our Agile geospatial information systems integration team for Government clients. You will work in a team environment to support and monitor database development. An ideal candidate will be able to lead the team from data modeling to implementation and improvement.
Your Responsibilities:
Support database development throughout the software lifecycle from requirements analysis and design through to implementation and maintenance
Visually design (new) and/or maintain (existing) data models utilizing a robust and competitive data modeling tool or tools, to accommodate the client’s business requirements
Manage the full round trips between data modeling, database implementation, and change management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on data model, data dictionary, and data artifacts
Work with programmers by providing assistance to their SQL query needs - providing complex queries, tuning queries for a high performance, creating additional data structures to accommodate the data needs from applications
Automate regular and repeated activities, such as backup, regular data loads, and etc.
Bulk data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) to assist data migration from various sources into the project’s database, and vice versa
Monitor the performance of application queries to meet the client’s response time requirements
Participate as a member in Agile teams, and work with other team members to review user stories, estimate effort to build functionality supporting user stories, and participate in sprint reviews
Monitor database health and security, implement table redesigns, update data in support of operations and testing, and SQL query design
Migrate data with complex rules and learn and implement new data technologies as needed
Ensure the availability and performance of the databases that support our systems have sufficient resources allocated to support high resilience and speed
Required Qualifications:
3+ years experience as a database developer working with PostgreSQL
Proficiency in PostgreSQL + PostGIS
Proficiency in pgAdmin or equivalent
Experience with QGIS or equivalent in conjunction with PostGIS in dealing with day to data data management activities.
Expert level SQL, PL/pgSQL, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.
Knowledge & work experience of JSON related PostgreSQL features.
Knowledge of database design principles, query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics and isolation levels

Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-anticipation and -solving, and customer service; ability to independently investigate solutions to challenges and anticipate leadership needs

Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work diplomatically with diverse constituencies
