A government agency responsible for public safety:

Not Another Katrina.

As the incidence and severity of natural disasters become more of a factor, a government agency must do more to encourage emergency preparedness among vulnerable populations who are disproportionately impacted by such events.

Motivf staff wrote a research paper and messaging tip sheet on how emergency management agencies can improve preparedness messaging to vulnerable populations.

Motivf bolstered engagement between emergency preparedness managers and their local communities who are most vulnerable to the negative impacts of natural disasters, increasing preparedness and resilience.

How we did it

Motivf took findings from small discussion groups, OpenSource peer-reviewed journal articles, and consulted with a working group to write the research paper. Key takeaways of the findings contributed to the messaging tip sheet. Drafts were shared with other emergency management agencies for review. A final draft was submitted and accepted for distribution to other internal departments within the same agency, regional offices, and local partners.
