GIS Analyst

Position Summary

We need a road warrior to analyze, collect, and create GIS data through GPS field surveys and other means, and digitizing existing utility data and/or as-built drawings. 

Location: Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia.

Work You’ll Do:

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the GIS data collection program in a fast-paced environment and producing high-quality GIS data

  • Performing remote data capture operations using various sources

  • Running QA/QC validation scripts and ensuring compliance with SDSFIE 4.0 and QAPs

  • Nearly constant travel to locations nationwide; making sound planning, logistic, and expense decisions autonomously

  • Operating GPS devices and lifting 20-30 lbs equipment regularly

  • Post-processing GPS data for loading into schemas

  • Continually reviewing processes and workflows, and making recommendations for improvement and increased automation

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS or a related field

  • 1+ years related experience in GPS and/or UAV data collection

  • 1+ years of experience in GIS data collection, validation and coordination and knowledge of digital data formats such as vector data, shapefiles, geospatial databases, GML, and XML

  • Proven ability to generate, convert, and/or GPS spatial data features

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write field notes and reports that summarize geospatial analyses and communicate findings with charts, tables, and narrative

  • Self-starter with tons of initiative, creativity, and drive

  • Experience in design, operation and integration of GIS

  • U.S. Citizenship (due to client requirements)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in GIS tools (i.e., Esri, QGIS), GPS/Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for utility lines

  • Experience with ArcGIS and Esri web applications

  • Familiar with Python or other scripting languages

  • CAD or experience reading as-built drawings and site plans

  • Familiar with or experience coordinating with GPR teams and processes

  • Knowledge of GIS data post-collection methods and guidelines

  • Familiar with SDSFIE 3.1 and 4.0 along with quality assurance plan data standards and best practices
